Bruce Tulio Earns His Wings

Children all over the world dream of becoming a pilot, of navigating the open skies from their small plane or of safely guiding a large plane full of passengers to their next destination. For many kids, this dream will give way to other interests, and soon the pictures of planes that have been so carefully tacked to the refrigerator are covered by pictures of horses, flowers, cats, or race cars. For a few kids, though, the dream will stay alive and they will one day fly as they have always wanted. Bruce Tulio is one of the few.

Becoming a Pilot

Bruce Tulio, like everyone else who holds a pilot’s license, had to undergo aviation lessons and be tested on his ability to control the aircraft while navigating. After passing his test, Bruce Tulio was a pilot. For many, this is a lifelong dream.

Now he is also a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, which is made up of over 400,000 pilots. All of the members of this highly esteemed organization, including Bruce Tulio, work to uphold leadership, technical know-how, advocacy, and hard work.

Finally Getting an Airplane

Just like getting a new set of wheels after passing the driver’s test, Bruce Tulio invested in his own Cessna 152 after earning his wings. This particular model is known as a plane often used for personal use or in giving pilot lessons. A two-seater, this aircraft offers the perfect vantage point from which to admire the beauty of the world below.

Becoming Part of the Community

When Bruce Tulio got his pilot’s license he did not simply earn the legal right to fly a plane—he joined a community of aviators that upholds the many aspects of flying that make earning your wings worthwhile. As a part of this community, Bruce Tulio has acted as a judge for the historic Powder Puff Derby, which was a transcontinental air race for female pilots.

Is going through the lessons, testing, and challenges of purchasing and storing your own airplane worth getting your pilot’s license? To some, no, but to others who are committed to the activity and who fully appreciate what it means to fly for themselves, it is a privilege that is worth it all.

Bruce Tulio, a man who has supported numerous community initiatives over the years, has found his niche in the fundraising aspect of community improvement.

An avid supporter of education, Bruce Tulio has put his management skills to work by becoming involved in many fundraising initiatives for schools looking to build new buildings, improve their current structures, or even reopen. Currently,  Bruce Tulio is acting as the co-chairman of his alumni association’s attempt to raise the money needed to reopen Northeast Catholic High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Why is supporting such initiatives important to Bruce Tulio and the other members of the community? Well, most obviously, keeping up with schools will allow kids to learn in a safe place. The more money a school has, the better it can care for its students, and people everywhere want their kids to have the best education possible.

Additionally, the schools all over the country contribute in their own way to the history of the United States. Bruce Tulio and the other members of the alumni association involved in the efforts to reopen Northeast Catholic High School understand that, over the last 85 years, this school has become a historical landmark that many people in the area appreciate.

Though no one person can fund these various projects on their own, Bruce Tulio and others have found that by aiding the fundraising efforts they can contribute to collecting the money they need to help their respective organizations. After participating as both chairman and co-chairman of several fundraising initiatives, Bruce Tulio has learned how to go about raising the money that is needed to improve various schools in the area.

Staying active in the community is important to many people, and a great way to get involved in neighborhood events is to help schools in need.

How Does Bruce Tulio Stay Active?

Living a well-balanced life entails being active and reflective, and Bruce Tulio has been involved in many activities that keep both his body and his mind in high gear. A scuba diving enthusiast, sailor, pilot, and little league coach, Bruce Tulio seems to be constantly on the go.

Scuba Diving

An activity that is certainly not for the faint of heart, scuba diving is an exciting interest that provides participants with a look into the world that lies beneath the surface of the ocean. While it is not something that you would expect to be physically demanding, scuba diving requires people to carry gear, be strong swimmers, and be able to keep their minds sharp as they navigate the depths.

Bruce Tulio’s interest in scuba diving goes beyond simply enjoying the activity. He is a former associate spokesperson for the PADI Diver’s Society. He also has an interest in protecting the marine environment, as is evident by his membership in the council of the Governor’s Cayman Islands Marine Conservation Commission, which he serves alongside Jean-Michel Cousteau.

Sailing

The open sea calls many a name, and one of those is Bruce Tulio. An avid sailor, Bruce Tulio is the owner of a Hunter 37 sailboat and has participated in the world famous Newport Bermuda Race. A sport that has long been held dear by men and women who thirst for adventure, sailing is an activity that, like scuba diving, requires sharp focus and physical skill.

Aviation

Many young boys dream of being a pilot, of sitting in the cockpit of a plane and navigating the atmosphere with nothing but their instruments and eyes to lead them. The spirit of adventure is strong in pilots, and that may be one of the reasons why Bruce Tulio opted to get his pilot’s license. Now an active member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, Bruce Tulio is a card-carrying member of the aviation community.

Little League

Inspiring athleticism and an active lifestyle in kids is important, and Bruce Tulio has taken on that responsibility by becoming a little league coach for the township of Upper Moreland, Pennsylvania. He coaches baseball, soccer, football, and basketball while acting as a role model for the kids on his teams.

Bruce Tulio Supports Education

It is one thing to claim to be an advocate of education, of actually being educated, but it is another to put that assertion into motion and act on behalf of a school to improve its ability to provide an education to its students. Bruce Tulio, a man who has stood by education for years, has become a person who is truly invested in the education of the people in his community.

Bruce Tulio has shown his commitment to furthering educational causes by becoming involved in his alumni association and helping a variety of schools fundraise for important improvement projects. Some of these projects include:

  1. Bruce Tulio’s high school, Northeast Catholic High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was closed after educating members of the community for 85 years. This was a harsh blow on both the educational and historical aspects of the city of Philadelphia. Bruce Tulio has co-chaired his alumni association’s attempts to raise the funds to reopen the school and reinstate the benefits that it provides to its students.
  2. Ancillae-Assumpta Academy in Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania, began raising funds to construct a new building. This new building was intended to house science and language classes, and Bruce Tulio co-chaired the fundraising efforts.
  3. Also in Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania, LaSalle College High School raised funds for the construction of a new building, and Bruce Tulio contributed to the project.
  4. St. Basil’s Academy in Fox Chase, Pennsylvania, hosts an annual fundraiser to complete necessary structural improvements. Bruce Tulio has acted as the chairman for the fundraising events.
  5. Bruce Tulio also helped raise money for a new building at Mt. St. Joseph’s Academy in Flourtown, Pennsylvania.
  6. Last but certainly not least, Bruce Tulio contributed at the Diamond Club level to the building of new facilities at Gynedd Mercy Academy in Springfield, Pennsylvania.

Helping schools raise the funds they need to continue to provide an education to their students is one of the most important things that a community member can do. Educating today’s youth will improve the future, and as such the youth of today are some of the world’s greatest investments.
